ONE HERO WILL BE CHOSEN

Desperate characters compete in children’s games for money. There's the Celebrity & The Expert; the Asshole & their Sidekick;  the Parent & Teenager... But we are missing a Hero!!

One willing audience member will be plucked from their seat to play said Hero.

However these games are played to the death! The competition will get down and dirty. Tempted by riches, some will certainly choose greed. Others may choose morality. Many will act out of desperation and fear... But what will the Hero choose?

Will they chase money and glory? Or, as the fallen pile up, will they take a stand against these dreadful games? Whatever they do is up to them and we will roll with it.

It’s a risky, raucous, Renaissance-style, melodramatic  Squid Game Parody like no other: a fight for survival rife with comic peril... and plenty of ridiculous death scenes.

This wildly successful absurd romp from the 2025 Fringe Festival returns to The Improv Centre Thursday April 30th at 9:30pm. Secure your tickets now.

Book a $25 table and get a free Duck Duck Moose Hat!

Vancouver  Province

Brought to you by

A Company of Poor Choices

We are so stoked to bring this crazy, ridiculous show back to the Granville Island's Improv Centre for the Vancouver Fringe festival! We have updated the format to embrace even more risk and give the audience even more control.  (As if having an audience member on stage for the entire show to play the Hero wasn't enough). We can't wait to show you the new version! If you loved it at Fringe then don't miss the new and improved Duck Duck Moose starring a cast of fantastic improvisors.

With a BFA in acting , his stage work includes Bard on the Beach, Stratford Festival, Young People’s Theatre, Toronto Fringe and many more. He’s a Dora Award winner and was a TIC House Team member for 3 seasons. Of his many Film & TV credits catch him in Big Blue (CBC) and Shaq’s Garage (Kartoon Channel). He’s thrilled to bring Duck Duck Moose to Fringe—well, to those who survive.

The Characters

The Asshole,
The Sidekick,
The Seer,
The Sarcastic Teenager, The Stubborn Parent,
The Expert,
The Celebrity—

And one willing audience member(don't worry only volunteers will be chosen)

Meanwhile, grotesque, filthy-rich benefactors cheer and cackle as contestants fall.

What's at Stake

The Host swings a hockey stick of doom, eliminating players who fail.

The challenges are absurd. The eliminations are pure melodrama.

They fight for their lives.
They fight for the prize.
Some seek a higher quest and fight for redemption.

But it's really just a battle between greed and morailty. In the end who will win?

Why This Show?

It’s seriously ridiculously fun. But also...

Duck Duck Moose channels the spirit of traveling medieval actors—poking fun at the powerful, celebrating the underdogs, and turning dark times into laughter.

Come for the chaos. Stay for the satire.

And cheer for your kind of hero.

Words from the creator.

Getting this show together has been a labour of love, duct tape, a whole lot of chicken wire, and late-night rehearsal jams where we’ve died in as many melodramatic ways as humanly possible. And every so often, we stop, look around, remember we are fully grown adults and ask ourselves: “What the heck are we doing with our lives?”

Like the players in the game, maybe we made a few poor choices along the way… and now here we are, hanging it all out there to bring you a smile, a laugh, or—hopefully— a hell of a good night.

Gordon Woolvett

Originally trained in musical theatre, Gordon Woolvett is a Gemini award winning Canadian actor, improviser, and lifelong poor decision-maker whose career spans decades across early Canadian TV, sci-fi, horror (YTV Host, Andromeda, Supernatural , Bride of Chucky), stage performance, and comedy.

With Duck Duck Moose, Gordon set out to create a live Canadian parody of Squid Game, blurring the line between the game and the show. One willing audience member becomes the hero — thrown into an absurd world of desperate characters, dark comedy, and actual games. But the real game is: can they resist the seductive pull of the rich, or will they play right into our hands?

At 55, Gordon still hasn’t grown up. He is an alumni member of Tightrope Theatre’s Maestro Ensemble and is now in his third season on House Teams at The Improv Centre. You can also catch him once a month in the improvised musical Canon Fire! His upcoming play, Love Scenes and Revisions — a satire that pokes fun at romantic comedy —  explores disconnection, misunderstandings, and vindication through comedy and satire that touches your heart.
