Inspired by Squid Game, Duck Duck Moose is an improvised Canadian dark satire of twisted children’s games and desperate contestants, with one willing audience member plucked from their seat and thrust into the competition to see what kind of Hero they emerge as.
What will they do? Chase money and glory? Or, as the fallen pile up, will they take a stand against the games? This show thrives on unpredictability. The cast fully embraces whatever our Hero says and does.
It’s a risky, raucous, Renaissance-style improv show that incorporates and justifies the Hero’s choices, delivering a fast, funny, melodramatic fight for survival, tempted by riches and rife with comic peril alongside plenty of mock-death scenes.

Brought to you by the
We are so stoked to bring this crazy, ridiculous show to Granville Island's Improv Centre for the Vancouver Fringe festival! Who will be Hero ? Can they win? Will they even survive? They will have to defeat a company of archetypes, desperate characters all facing certain doom, trying to redeem themselves one last time. It's a gleefully awful display of the rich manipulating the poor for their own entertainment, created live on the spot by a stellar cast of experienced actors and improvisors.

A desperate Company of Poor Choices:
The Asshole, The Sidekick, The Seer, The Sarcastic Teenager, The Stubborn Parent, The Expert, The Celebrity—
plus one unsuspecting audience member who becomes The Hero.
Meanwhile, grotesque, filthy-rich benefactors (straight out of Commedia dell’Arte) cheer and cackle as contestants fall.
Will the Hero take the prize... or rebel against the twisted game itself?

The Host (and Referee) swings a hockey stick of doom, eliminating players who fail.
And no one’s told the contestants this game is played to the death.
The challenges are absurd. The eliminations are pure melodrama.
And the whole thing is soaked in Canadian tradition — like it or not.

Because it’s ridiculously fun. But also...
Duck Duck Moose channels the spirit of traveling medieval actors—poking fun at the powerful, celebrating the underdogs, and turning dark times into laughter.
Come for the chaos. Stay for the satire.
And maybe cheer for a hero who chooses something better than greed.
Getting this show together has been a labour of love, duct tape, a whole lot of chicken wire, and late-night rehearsal jams where we’ve died in as many melodramatic ways as humanly possible. And every so often, we stop, look around, remember we are fully grown adults and ask ourselves: “What the heck are we doing with our lives?”
Like the players in the game, maybe we made a few poor choices along the way… and now here we are, hanging it all out there to bring you a smile, a laugh, or—hopefully— a hell of a good night.
And so, as artists have done for thousands of years (and probably will for a thousand more), I place my hat on the sidewalk and humbly ask: if you can spare some change to buy us a coffee, we’d be grateful. Your support helps make ridiculous Fringe-worthy ventures like this possible.
Originally trained in musical theatre, Gordon Woolvett is a Gemini award winning Canadian actor, improviser, and lifelong poor decision-maker whose career spans decades across early Canadian TV, sci-fi, horror (YTV Host, Andromeda, Supernatural , Bride of Chucky), stage performance, and comedy.
With Duck Duck Moose, Gordon set out to create a live Canadian parody of Squid Game, blurring the line between the game and the show. One willing audience member becomes the hero — thrown into an absurd world of desperate characters, dark comedy, and actual games. But the real game is: can they resist the seductive pull of the rich, or will they play right into our hands?
At 55, Gordon still hasn’t grown up. He performs as an alumni member of Tightrope Theatre’s Maestro Ensemble and is now in his second season on House Teams at The Improv Centre. His upcoming play, Love Scenes and Revisions — a satire that pokes fun at romantic comedy — blends digital and stage performance to explore disconnection, misunderstandings, and full-blown relationship chaos, all born from (you guessed it) more poor choices… just with fewer hockey sticks. And nobody dies. hockey sticks.
